Building collapsible kitchen table is straightforward, accomplished with a minimal amount of labor and tools. Collapsible tables are convenient because they can be folded so that you can have more extra room in your kitchen. Used for kitchen tables, whether for dining or food preparation, collapsible kitchen tables are also handy for a variety of other uses, including: outdoor dining, game-playing, or just for a place to put things. The hardest part of making a well-constructed, collapsible table may be waiting for the wood sealer to dry before finishing the project.
Step by Step of Making a DIY Collapsible Kitchen Table
First, prepare these following things: plywood, sawhorses, wood sealer, 3-inch paintbrush, metal folding table legs, yard stick, wood screws, drill, drill bits, screw-head drill bit and pencil.

After all the tools are ready, start your project by determining the size table needed. The number of people seated at the table, or interior space restrictions determine collapsible kitchen tables’ sizes. A table with a length of 70 inches and a width of 28 inches is amply sufficient to accommodate six people sitting for dinner. Subtract 20 inches from the length to accommodate four people. Alter the table size for any space restrictions.
Purchase a piece of plywood from a lumber dealer. Have the lumber dealer cut the wood to the appropriate size if the plywood is too large. This normally requires purchasing the entire piece of plywood, but is worth the convenience.
Then, treat the plywood by laying the wood on the sawhorses and applying a wood sealer to the plywood using a paintbrush. Cover each side and allow drying according to the manufacturer’s directions. Many brand names, including Behr, Minwax and Benjamin Moore, are designed to weatherproof wood, resisting it from rain, humidity and other moisture sources, which can damage the wood, causing it to warp and bend. Decide on a clear or colored finish, making sure it is suitable for outdoor use.
Purchase folding metal legs for the table. Sturdy folding legs are available with different height and weight specifications. Bracket legs with folding brackets mounted toward the table’s center are convenient, and only two are required. Each assembly has legs for each table end in a one-piece construction. Also, the folding brackets, when extended, provide extra strength for the table’s center.
Mount the legs to the table. With the table flipped over on a pair of sawhorses, place one bracket leg approximately 5 inches in from the end of the table. Using a yardstick, align the bracket legs evenly on each side of the table, making sure to mark all screw holes with a pencil. Take the legs off the table and drill starter holes at each mark. Replace the legs over the holes and mount them to the table, using the appropriate-sized wood screws. After you’ve done all those steps, cover the collapsible kitchen table with a tablecloth and place into its desired location, either outdoors, or inside the kitchen.
